Day 1788 a 15km walk around a beautiful sunny Rome 💙☀️🇮🇹🫶🏼

It’s 7.44pm Italian time and I’m sitting in Rome Ciampino airport.

My legs are gowping!! (There’s a good Scottish word. 😆 )

I have walked over 15kms today!

I loved every minute of it… until maybe the last half a mile when my legs started to ache!

It was a beautiful day. I woke up early and tried to have a lie in…. I couldn’t decide what to do for the best today. Do I stay at Melanie’s and rest or make the most of my day…. I made the most of my day.

I have so many photos and videos to share but the highlight for me, is always the blue sky.

I cannot get enough of the blue sky. 💙💙💙

I walked for just under an hour before I reached Circus Maximus. This is where they held chariot races and under Julius Caesar, they built a wall around the arena. It’s massive!

I managed to get to the Colosseum again. The second time seeing it in pure blue sky. I realise I am very lucky.

While I was here I tried to do some Her Travel Circle videos 😆😆 I had a wee script to work from. It’s funny how dreadfully, cringeworthy it was to start off with and then I grew in confidence, realising that no one cared in the slightest!!

Unfortunately, they may never make the cut as co-founder and IT geek (Craig!) said they should be full length shots and not just head shots. Makes sense…. 😆

I then decided to head for Villa Borghese, which is a beautiful landscape garden to the north the of Rome. I stopped for lunch along the way.

Check the Colosseum behind me as I walk away! It always pays to look all around you in a beautiful city like Rome!

My criteria for picking a restaurant…. Does it serve pizza? Does it have space for one sitting somewhere private-ish… is there a seat in the sun.

Yes!!

Loved this stripey church.

The ancient and beautiful buildings are everywhere, along with the reminder that everyone who lives here, had to park somewhere!

And relax… Villa Borghese was everything I hoped it would be… and more. It was so beautiful. So peaceful. So calm.

I needed time away from the crowds and the noise. I get easily overwhelmed by noise and crowds. The park was just perfect.

I sat here for almost an hour. Soaking up the sun. Soaking up the sounds of the birds and the laughter from the boating pond.

As I sat, I realised there were no negative sounds at all…. Only calm and joy. No one goes to a park for stress or to argue. Everyone is there for the same reasons. It shows that being in nature is the best detox.

I needed the solitude. It was just perfect.

This wee guy sat like this for a good while… he looked like he was sunbathing!!

This is one of the entrances to the park!

I’ve never been this far north in Rome before. It’s equally as pretty as the rest.

I found Piazza del Popolo.

My next stop was All Saints Anglican Church as we know the minister and his wife. It was all kicked up sadly but I’m so pleased I’ve finally been able to see it, from the outside at least.

Then on to the busy Spanish Steps.

And the EVEN BUSIER Trevi Fountain.

It was heaving!!! They’ve changed the way it works again and are only allowing 400 people down to the water at any one time. I did not queue as I’ve seen it before so had to stand back with the masses!! Bearing in mind it’s a random Monday in March!!

Next stop was Rome Termini where I catch the Terravision bus out to Ciampino airport.

And here I sat for another hour….

A perfect end to a perfect day.

The bus left 20 minutes early and I’m through passport control waiting on the lounge. My flight is not for another hour yet.

I’m hoping I will sleep on the flight!!

So another Italian adventure at an end.

Thank you to Melanie for allowing me to stay with her and co-ordinating the trip to Florence. I can’t thank her enough.

Next blog from Scotland!

Stay safe everyone 🇮🇹✈️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
