Day 2144 wee update on Freya

Morning everyone, an early one today. (Except i didn’t post it!)

Wee baby Freya is home and starting her recovery.

She was so weak when I took her in that they had to put her on a drip and give her more antibiotics to build her kidney function up for the operation.

I dropped her off at 8.30am and popped past work to pick up my laptop and ended up in there for a few hours.

I’m not gonna lie (when do I ever?!) I am so mentally exhausted after this weekend that I couldn’t think straight at all let alone remember the job I was meant to be doing.

My neighbour Holly very kindly walked Calaidh and Bhruic in the morning and I got home about 11.30.

I had to hoover and mop all the floors as the poor puppy had left blood spots everywhere.

Anyway this is meant to be about her… not me 🙈

So I had to call at 12.30 and she was in theatre when I called so that was good news.

I had to call back at 2pm. By then she was out of theatre and recovering and would be ready for collection at 5.15.

She was a wee would when I picked her up. She was still heavily sedated.

She is our baby Dinkles, Dinkly-doodle, Sprinkle-Dinkles, Dinkle-stinker-minke-tinkle (oh and there are so many more!) but the point is she is the baby of our family. Even though she’s 9 she’s always been the puppy. The one who does a crazy wee dance when you call her to you. The one who comes running at a hundred miles an hour when you open the back door.

A mere £900 later she’s ready to come home. I don’t know if we’ll get this on insurance or not but I’ve everything crossed that we do. They don’t usually pay out for spays. This was an emergency spay.

Her uterus weighted 850grammes on temoval.

It should have been between 55-115g !!!!!!

She never moved once in the car on the way home.

Outside for some fresh air.

Then into the cone of shame…. “no liking Mumma” she says….

She’s to stay indoors for 10 days and only to go outside for the toilet and straight back in.

Poor Craig made his way home from Edinburgh airport himself despite offers of a lift as I couldn’t go for him. I got him from our local station at 9.15 and he slept with her last night to let me try and catch up.

My head is banging, I’m feeling a tiredness deeper than usual despite a full 7 hour sleep. I have to stay with her this week and watch her every move. After a few days we can maybe leave her shut in a room on her own for short periods of time.

I wrote all of this before work and never posted. She’s been such a good girl today. You would never know she had so much removed just yesterday!

She’s been by my side all day as I worked from home.

It’s been a beautiful day today. I didn’t see much of it but I did have a lovely walk after work with Calaidh and Bhru.

Was so lucky to catch the blood moon tonight!!!

Stay safe everyone 🌕♥️🌕

Day 2143 surprise 😆😘 I can hear myself think this weekend! Welcome to March!

The break from writing every night has allowed me time to finally hear the voice inside my own head.

That sounds a bit crazy but the silence inside my head is wonderful.

I’m so grateful that I have allowed myself the space to rest and reset.

It’s funny as I go to take a photo to share with you and then think I don’t actually have to do that.

I thought of you all when I saw my first daffodil of the year.

Her Travel Circle is growing from strength to strength. We now have 474 active members and 77 hosts across 5 continents. It’s keeping us both very busy.

So Craig is in Berlin this weekend on a solo trip and he is loving it. He’s taken to solo travel like a duck to water. I’m so proud of him. He’s taken lots of video for the Circle. It’s lovely to see him so excited and enjoying it as much as I do.

Unfortunately Freya has got sick while he’s been away and he’s saying he’s never going away again. 🙈

I took her to the vet on Friday as she has stomach pains and they gave her a steroid injection and a Buscopan cramps injection and she pepped right up.

She was fine all day yesterday. I met Gayle for lunch at Mocha Jaks and we had a great catch up…. And lunch!

Freya refused her dinner and I knew that was a sign that it wasn’t better.

She woke me at 1.30am and the bed was wet… it was blood.

I lifted her off the bed and got her outside, I cleaned her and got her settled again and called the emergency vet at 2.30am and woke him up…. She’s spotting blood all over the place.

At 9.30 they called back and I had an appointment for 10.30.

She’s a wee soul….

She got an ultrasound scan and she has a massive infection in her uterus. She needs a hysterectomy and all the infection to be removed. She’s booked in at 8.30am tomorrow.

She got an injection to fight the infection (yes the one that will be removed tomorrow!) and a second injection of Metacalm.

The wee scone is always happier outside and it suits me today. I’ve got black plastic bags over the dog beds to protect them.

We’ve got a traveller coming tonight or tomorrow and staying for the week. She knows what’s going on and that she’s still welcome. These things happen.

I am exhausted but my head is calm. I’m going back to bed for a bit.

It’s been so lovely to see some sunshine this week. ☀️☀️☀️

The lighter days are coming.

Stay safe everyone ♥️♥️♥️
